“The most beautiful thing a woman can wear is beautiful skin.” - Jane Iredale
Makeup can do many wonderful things, but nothing beats beautiful skin. About 6 months leading up to your wedding is a crucial time for many things, especially your skincare routine. If you don’t have a regular skin care routine and there are areas you’d like to improve, get in touch with an Licensed Esthetician. If you don’t know an Esthetician, then a good makeup artist will know one to send you. Some makeup artists perform those services themselves. Once you get under their care, your skin will start to improve and be flawless for your wedding day. Be sure to follow the instructions your skin care provider gives you when you get home.
A very important part of skin care is your routine at home. If you have a skin routine that has been working there is no need to change it! I’ve seen so many girls switch things up before their wedding and it has ended badly. I’ve seen allergic reactions, breakouts and new skin conditions. So please, if you have a routine and it's working for you, stick with that! If there needs to be any changes, your makeup artist will let you know. Most of us are Estheticians or Cosmetologist, and have a skin care background.
Another major component of good skin is good nutrition. All brides want to look amazing in their wedding dress, so we all start to diet. I am not a nutritionist, so I can’t recommend what will work best for you. Be sure that you’re eating a well balanced diet, and don’t starve yourself. Get some good vegetables, some good proteins, and drink lots of water! Try to avoid junk food and fast food. We all know weddings can be stressful, so early on, find who & what helps you release stress. Breathe deep and enjoy the process!
Now lets talk about a very important topic: tanning! This topic is near and dear to my heart. I get it, we all want a nice golden tan to go with our white dress. Tanning beds aren’t always the answer. Spray tans have come a long way over the years! Please search out some good spray tanning options before you go to a tanning bed or lay in the sun. I personally have a few trustworthy places that I send my brides to get wonderful spray tans! The damage that tanning beds do to your skin are not worth it. We all know about skin cancer, but less scary things like wrinkles, sun spots, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation are a very real possibility with tanning beds. So, if you take away anything from this section, please know that there are some really great spray tans out there! Feel free to shoot me an email and I’d be glad to send you my recommendations!
It’s time for product recommendations! I am a Licensed Esthetician, trained and certified in Dermalogica. They are a wonderful product line. I am also a huge fan of Mario Badescu. Mario Badescu is sold in Ulta. I love everything by them! I take my personal skincare very seriously. I use their cleanser, toner, moisturizer, spot treatment and face mask. I also recently have developed dark circles. They are a huge pain! I started using Juice Beauty's Green Apple Nutrient Eye Cream and it has helped me so much! It is another natural line and it works amazingly. Recommendations for makeup brands you say? Well.. that is kind of all over the place. I use many brands depending on a client's needs and skin type. Personally and first, I love Jane Iredale! I have loved that company for so many years! Please look them up, you’ll fall in love! I also love Make Up Forever, Ben Nye, Temptu, Stila, Too Faced, Kryolan and many, many more!
A really important final note is this, when it comes to your wedding time, it’s so important to surround yourself with good people! You need an amazing wedding planner, you need a talented florist, photographer and many more! Of course, you need an incredible Makeup Artist & Hair Team! Research your vendors. See if they are licensed to do what they do, ask them about their continuing education, & ask them how many weddings they do a year. Be comfortable with them and get to know them. The more comfortable you are with your vendors, and the more you know them, the less stress you will have. I wish you the very best on your wedding journey!
